Microlearning & Rapid Design

Problem & Context

The BridgeEd Learning onboarding module was developed to support new employees in transitioning into a fully remote work environment. The module introduces learners to organizational tools, communication practices, workplace policies and procedures, and benefits through a structured and interactive learning experience.

The project was designed as a self-paced onboarding experience intended to provide employees with foundational knowledge while reducing information overload commonly associated with traditional onboarding processes.

BridgeEd Learning New Employees Onboarding Module

Design Decisions

This module was intentionally structured into short, segmented sections to support readability, maintain engagement, and reduce cognitive load while navigating a large amount of onboarding information. Interactive Rise 360 blocks, such as accordions, process interactions, and checklists, were used to organize content into manageable chunks and support learner engagement.

The module was also intentionally designed to be role-agnostic so it could support employees across different functions within the organization while maintaining a consistent and accessible onboarding experience.

Accessibility Considerations (AODA-Aligned)

Accessibility and readability were prioritized throughout the design process to support a broad range of learners and devices.

Key accessibility considerations included:

  • alt text on images and interactive elements

  • concise and plain-language writing

  • consistent layouts and navigation patterns

  • high visual contrast

  • limited text density

  • legible typography (minimum 14-16pt body text)

Assessment throughout the module was designed to be formative and low-pressure. Rather than relying on a single final assessment, knowledge checks were distributed throughout the module to reinforce learning.

The module incorporated a variety of knowledge checks, including:

  • multiple choice questions

  • matching activities

These assessments were intended to:

  • reinforce learning through active participation and decision-making

  • encourage learners to connect onboarding concepts to realistic workplace situations

  • provide low-pressure opportunities for reflection and application

From Clay to Kiln: The Pottery Process
Brief Design Overview

This microlearning experience was developed in Rise 360 as a short, mobile-friendly learning experience for customers to access by scanning a QR code at a market or retail location. The learning experience introduces the pottery-making process, from clay preparation to kiln firing, while also providing practical information about pottery care and maintenance.

Visual process explanations, simple navigation, pottery care instructions, and links to the pottery studio’s Instagram page were incorporated to balance educational storytelling with practical product information and ongoing customer engagement.
